So my friend John likes to take me to the Airport whenever I fly out of the Dominican. John is a 13 year old boy. He has 9 brothers and sisters and he lives as if the responsibility of his family is on his shoulders. He sleeps on the floor at night and often skips school to try and find food and soap for his family. As John and I waited in line for my boarding pass I looked at him and asked, "John, are you happy"? John looked down at the ground and said, "No, no I am not happy." I asked him why and he said he didn't know. I asked him that while I was gone to think about why he was not happy and then when I got back to tell me about it. When I got back to the Dominican after being a way for a week, John met me my first day back in the village. This was what he had to say, He said that while I was gone he was talking to a lot of people about the fact that he was not happy. And this is what he learned from people in the village. "I need to learn to be happy today. Even if things in my life changed and my life became easier that still will not make me happy, because I will still want more. I need to learn to be happy today and not wait for tomorrow. If I do not learn to be happy today, I will not be happy tomorrow." New website, blog, Twitter and Instagram all in an effort to better communicate with the general public about the work we are doing here in the D.R. Hopefully sharing some photos and thoughts helps others understand more about our projects and about the people that we are helping! Like these guys with these great new uniforms. Looking good boys! |
